Finding out who you are and what you want in life takes years, so naturally, reinventing yourself requires patience as well. It’s not something that happens overnight. To transform yourself, develop daily habits to enhance your mental and physical health, and your view of yourself and the world around you.

Reconnect With Nature

reconnect with nature

In today’s society, technology is literally at our fingertips. We spend our time reading about the opinions, lifestyles, and daily habits of others. In other words, we’re just wasting valuable time. To reconnect with yourself, reconnect with nature. Whether you’re watching the sunrise each morning or vacationing in a secluded cabin without electricity, taking time out to embrace nature will give you the time and peace to reflect on your life, choices you’ve made, and your future.

That’s not just common-sense conjecture, either. Science backs up these claims. According to National Geographic, “people living near more green space reported less mental distress, even after adjusting for income, education, and employment (all of which are also correlated with health)…[R]esearchers found a lower incidence of…depression, anxiety, heart disease, diabetes, asthma, and migraines…[Participants] showed a boost in heart and metabolic health…Lower mortality and fewer stress hormones circulating in the blood have also been connected to living close to green space.”

Find Pleasure in Giving

Being generous is more than giving away physical items or money. Generosity is the genuine desire to make the lives of others easier. According to US News, “generosity and compassion have been a focal point of research for decades, and studies have consistently shown that improved mood, better physical health and increased longevity are connected to giving.” Volunteering your time is one fine example of giving back and garnering a sense of community. While it’s a beautiful feeling to receive, it’s an even more powerful feeling to make an impact on someone’s life by giving.

Take Care of Yourself

Taking care of yourself doesn’t merely mean eating healthier and exercising more. While these are both appropriate ways of making sure you’re in tip-top shape, there are other important things to consider for yourself. Getting enough sleep every night and occasionally taking time out for yourself to do what you love are yet more ways to help keep a sharp mind, healthy body and happy life.

Take Charge

Sober living is also an essential part of reinventing yourself. It allows you to appreciate the beauty of life without an impaired mind. Drugs and alcohol may make you feel good for a short while but could wreak havoc on your mind and body years down the road. Even addictions to relatively harmless substances like chocolate or caffeine can rob you of your self-control and impact the rest of your new identity. According to Casa Nuevo Vida, “Once an individual is addicted, the change in the brain interferes with an individual’s ability to think clearly, exercise good judgment and control behavior. Depending on the individual, the urge will become too strong that the mind finds ways to rationalize or deny the addiction.” Get control of your life, your health, your finances, and put you back in the driver seat of your life.

Meditation is one of the most important things you can do for your body and spirit. It grounds you and promotes stillness of mind. It rejuvenates and allows new perspectives to form. Problem-solving is enhanced when you approach a problem from a new direction, and it is difficult to see alternatives when your brain is operating under stress. Taking 20-30 minutes a day to relax, reflect, and recharge is a vital technique for understanding where you are and where you want to be. We have many useful accessories to make this process easier, more comfortable, and more effective.

Set Small, Workable Goals

Focus on creating small, workable goals instead of stressing about the big picture. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the idea of a prosperous future, but it’s even easier to tackle tasks little by little to get there. Goals that are attainable will leave you with a feeling of accomplishment.

Reinventing yourself is more than a physical makeover. To truly transform yourself, you need to be willing to re-envision the world around you. It means reconnecting with nature, being generous, taking care of yourself, and setting attainable goals.
